Mas Lou Angaco 2020 Faugeres
Faugeres has been one of the Languedoc's most reliable performers for many decades, thanks to its distinctive schist soils, complex microclimates and old vines. However, in recent years a number of truly superb wines have comes from these sun-soaked slopes, often made entirely with the much-maligned carignan grape, as here. But when you're dealing with century-old vines, as with this wine, anything is possible, and you'll find ripe and baked black cherries, grip and charcoally tannins in abundance. This is terrific value, and at its best with some garlic and rosemary lamb shoulder while the rain beats on the window outside.
