Luna Beberide, Bierzo

Between Villafranca and Cacabellos, where Luna Beberide started their winery in 1987, Bierzo is a region of fertile valleys, producing abundant crops of fruit and on the higher slopes grapes. Now with 80 hectares of vineyard, the estate focuses on the local varieties of godello and mencia from old vines – their joven comes from vines over 50 years old. The vines are planted exclusively on south-facing, chalky clay slopes at altitudes of 600-750 metres. No pesticides or herbicides are used, harvesting is by hand, fermentation is with native yeasts and the wines are bottled without filtration.
