Chateau de Bonnezeau Montagne 2020
From one plot of 40 year old vines in Coteaux du Layon and another of 70 year old vines in Bonnezeaux, this small production white is made with organic fruit in the vineyard and low-intervention in the winery, with a small amount of sulphur at bottling. It is labelled as a simple Vin de France since neither Bonnezeaux nor Coteauc du Layon have the right to label dry wines with the appellation - they're exclusively for sweet chenin blanc. The wines are aged in old oak mainly and there is no fining or filtration. The result is one of France's most exceptional wines. Rich yet steely, fresh yet lightly honied, this is an estate that has quickly attained cult-like status due to the small quantities and association with Mark Angeli, the Giacomo Tachis of chenin blanc, but while the prices remain reasonable, we suggest you fill your boots. Limited quantities are available.
