Mas de Daumas Gassac Rouge 2012 Languedoc
If such a thing as the first growths of the Languedoc were to be compiled, Mas de Daumas Gassac would surely come out top of the pile. Famous for pioneering top-notch cabernet sauvignon led blends in this large area of Southern France with one eye on Bordeaux, the impetus was thanks to Professor Henri Enjalbert and the legendary Emile Peynaud of Bordeaux University - quite the brains trust.
Surrounded by garrigue, the scrub herb flavours of thyme and rosemary suffuse the top red blend, complementing its rich cassis and dark berry flavour. Time will bring further depth, smoky notes and meaty, leathery complexity.
