Pierre Menard Le Clos des Mailles Blanc 2018 Anjou
A striking chenin blanc grown on black schist soils, this brings to mind the impossible to find wines of Richard Leroy who is making wines near to Menard. Subtle reduction gives inviting gunflint tones with light pastoral, grassy notes and a touch of mint. The palate has the brisk, stony, glassy mineral texture, plus almond and pear, that brings to mind top extra brut Champagne. Exciting stuff.
