Chateau de Fonbel 2016 St Emilion
Fonbel was bought by the Vauthier family of Chateau Ausone and lies near that property. Its 16 hectares of vineyards in the Saint Emilion Grand Cru appellation are an odd mix of plantings, including 7% petit verdot and what's thought to be one of the most extensive plantings of carmenere in Bordeaux.ÊThe nose is smoky, black and meaty; notes of plum crunch and bramble, with a creamy top-note of iron. This is structured right from the front, with fine, medium tannin levels.
