Vinateros Bravos Arbol Arriba Torontel 2019 Itata Chile
Leo Erazo is a bit of a poster boy for new wave Chilean wines, and after many years of working at the large wineries based in and around Santiago, he decided to strike out on his own much further south, establishing his own project in Itata. Old and unirrigated vines grown on volcanic and sand soils give this wine huge character. The torontel grape is a local grape, probably related to muscat, that has been around since the time of the Spanish conquistadors. This inventive, textured, dry yet perfumed white is aged in a mix of concrete tank and egg. Medium weight with rich and spicy aromatic characteristics overlaid on notes of grapefruit and lemon meringue.
