Diplomatico Seleccion de Familia 43% Venezuela

A special bottling that sits above their well-known Reserva Exclusiva, the Seleccion is bottled at a higher strength and contains a greater proportion of Venezuelan pot still rum, which is more characterful than the column still spirit also produced by Diplomatico, as well as including older rums than the younger Reserva Exclusiva. The majority of the blend is aged for 12 years in bourbon, oloroso and pedro ximinez casks, giving richly caramelised notes of toasted demerara sugar, raisin, warm, earthy spices and bread and butter pudding. While there's definitely some of the sweetness that Diplomatico is famous for, here it is toned down and allows those big, rambunctious pot still rums to come through, whilst balancing out their fierier aspects.
