Antoniolo Gattinara Riserva Osso San Grato 2016 Piedmont
Truly a grand cru of Gattinara, this vineyard was purchased by Lorella and Alberto's grandfather, Mario, and is distinctive for being steep, fully south-facing and with strong volcanic elements in the soils. The wines that come from it are always singular and impressive, perhaps the best in Gattinara, but the 2016 is really majestic, full of fruit, perfume and profound structure, and reflects the grandeur of this exalted vintage for nebbiolo. Aged in Slavonian botti grande for three years and in bottle for one, it is youthful but with huge promise. We showed it recently alongside a Bruno Giacosa Falletto 2015 and it was every bit as good. It will continue to improve over the next two decades, despite drinking superbly now.
