Alasia Barbaresco 2015 Langhe
Araldica are one of Piedmont's most successful co-operatives, with a stronger focus on quality and tradition than many in the region. This Barbaresco, from the excellent 2015 vintage, is absolutely on point and great value. The elusive 'rose petal' cliche of nebbiolo is actually present for once, alongside notes of cinnamon and dried strawberry fruit, with firm papery tannins, ripe tomato and star anise spice on the palate. Made without new oak, this is aged mainly in large Slavonian casks for two years, plus six months in bottle before release. A fine match for a slow roast lamb shoulder or osso bucco, or the failsafe porcini mushroom risotto, which flatters the nebbiolo grape superbly.
