Bouchon Family Wines Block Series Carmenere 2018 Maule Chile

This superb carmenere is a distinctive and different rendition of Chile's signature red grape. Rather than the bell pepper character of carmenere grown on clay, as in most of central Chile, this Maule example is grown on granite, toning down the herbaceousness and replacing it with a bright acidity, a touch of iron and some green peppercorn to offset the plush, ripe red fruits. Ageing in foudre also ensures that this is much less oaky than the Chilean norm. A fabulous example of the new wave of winemaking in Chile.
