Albert Grivault Pommard 1er Cru Clos Blanc Rouge 2014
Famous for their Meursault premier cru Perrieres, which is the jewel in the crown of this estate, Grivault is a traditional address making wines that are full of burgundian verve and freshness. There are no winemaking tricks in the cellar with the Clos Blanc, so named because the vineyard was historically planted with white grapes, even though it is now (slightly confusingly) a red. The grapes are destemmed and given time in barrel of around 18 months with judicious amounts of new oak. The result is a wine of stony freshness and delicate but firm structure with a teasing interplay of crunchy red and black fruit and a note of iron and blood on the finish. A perfect match to a rare steak.
