Kara Tara Chardonnay 2021 Western Cape
Rudiger Van Wyck is the winemaker at the luxurious Stark-Conde estate, but this is his side project. Made in the style of Burgundy, with a part of the wine fermented in new oak barrels, this is named after the river in the town where he was born, far away from wine country. The fruit comes from Stellenbosch, Paarl, Overberg and Elgin and the result is a wine of firm acidity, nutty savour and stony freshness. A worthy challenger to modern grand cru Chablis, this is an outstanding, world-class chardonnay at a silly price.
