Susana Esteban Procura Branco 2019 Portalegre

High up in the granite hills of the Serra do Mamede in Portalegre, Susana Esteban found what she was searching for. Two very old and low-yielding plots planted to a range of varieties, some forgotten, producing concentrated grapes in the cooler fresher air found here. A field-blend simply and gently aged in old Burgundy casks, this makes a fine alternative to nutty, savoury Burgundy. Expect a smoky nose, with pressed honeysuckle, wet stone, peach and pear as well as a honeyed note from some bottle ageing.
