St Verny Rose 2020 Auvergne
La Cave Saint-Verny is the sole co-operative in the Puy-de-Dome departement in central France's Auvergne area, and was founded in 1950. They buy grapes annually from 115 small growers, most of which consists of the permitted varieties gamay and pinot noir.
The rose comes from high altitude plots of volcanic soil (Puy de Dome is a lava dome formed around 10,000 years ago) and retains a distinctive cool and fresh mineral character. Lots of raspberry and cherry fruit at first, then salty acidity and a dry savouriness to the finish. Elegant and fine value.
