Soulanes Hors d'Age Solera Vin Doux Naturel Maury
While even the big-ticket fortified wines (Port, Madeira, sherry) represent outstanding value, the less-well known corners of the fortified wine world are even more replete with ridiculous bargains. This is an oxidatively-aged style of fortified red wine from a solera containing the 1998 and 2003 vintages that combines, spiritually, the characteristic air-aged and rancio flavours of old oloroso, tawny port and Madeira. The flavours move between carmelised plum and membrillo, butterscotch and old mahogany, maraschino liqueur and Spanish cedarwood. Serve lightly chilled.
