Zagreus Handmade Rkatsiteli Barrique 2018 Thracian Lowlands
Zagreus vineyards were first planted in 1998 in the fertile Plovdiv plain, within the lowlands of Thrace, one of Bulgaria's best regions for grape growing. Certified organic since 2013, owner Dimitar Kostadinov's mission is to produce excellent examples of characterful local Bulgarian varietal mavrud as well as high-quality cabernet sauvignon, merlot and syrah.
The rkatsiteli comes from a tiny experimental plot, with only 388 bottles produced in 2018. Unusually it was aged in acacia barrels, leading to a smooth, waxy palate of rich yellow apple and hawthorn, a touch of tannin for textural grip and delicate aromatics.
