Bucciarelli Chianti Classico 2016 Castellina

Located in the Chianti Classico region halfway between Florence and Siena, the estate was initially owned by Michelangelo in the 16th century, and stayed in the Buonarotti family until 1863. The Bucciarelli family enter the picture as sharecroppers from the early 20th century until 1982, and since 1986 they have bottled and sold their own estate production. From their 5 hectares of vines production is modest and quality exceptionally high, so naturally we fell head-over-heels for this Chianti Classico when we first tasted it. It exudes the warm, Mediterranean personality of Tuscany and is a wonderful expression of the region's signature red grape, sangiovese. Expect tobacco, earth, leather and balsamic characters over fresh black cherry and dried strawberry fruit. The finish is long and savoury. An excellent wine for the table.
