Ariousios Afstiros Red 2016 Chios

Ariousios Winery is based on the Greek island of Chios, only 5km from Turkey's western shore. Renowned in antiquity for wine, this mountainous landscape with cooling sea breezes and views out over the Aegean provides an ideal climate for viticulture. Ariousios are nearly single-handedly reviving the indigenous Chios varieties, chiotiko krassero and ayannatis. This has dark, dried fruit, old leather and earthy spice flavours, the structure of aged Rioja or claret, but with a Mediterranean warmth that is all its own.
