Alvar de Dios Vaguera 2020 Toro
Alvar de Dios worked with some of the best names in the business at Bodegas Maranones, and has been working on his own project since 2008. In 2009, he purchased a half hectare of old vines that are the source of this bottling. Vaguera is made entirely from the local dona blanca variety. In personality, this is something akin to viognier, or perhaps even pinot gris: expect peach skin, rosehip and a note of fresh, juicy pears on a dry but cushioned, soft palate. The vineyards are almost a century old, giving concentration, and situated at 950m altitude, giving cool nights and freshness at the core of the wine. Subtle and long with a lightly grippy texture, this is a wine with a unique personality that will reward some time in the glass. Pair it with delicate white meat dishes for best results.
