Sordo Pelaverga 2020 Verduno
Pelaverga is a rare speciality of the Verduno commune in Barolo. The wines made from it are much lighter than nebbiolo, and quite similar in some ways to pinot noir, being fresh but low in tannin. And yet, there's something distinctively peppery about it - white pepper, in fact - that keeps it savoury and intriguing, alongside some sage and cranberry fruit. Here we have a fine example from thirty year old vines, fermented only in steel. This would be perfect served slightly cool with a plate of antipasti.
