Tetramythos Retsina 2018 Peloponnese
Tetramythos is situated near Ano Diakopto overlooking the Gulf of Corinth in northern Peloponnese. Cultivation of grapes here dates back to at least 150 AD, with glowing contemporary accounts. The beautifully wild vines are planted in a variety of true cool climate vineyards on the slopes of Mount Aroania, where breezes from the gulf of Corinth help produce fresh and balanced grapes.
The winery is owned by the spectacularly named trio of Aristides and Stathis Spanos, who are brothers, and the highly talented winemaker Panagiotis Papagiannopoulos, regarded as one of Greece's most talented natural winemakers.
This delicate Retsina, one of Greece's most ancient wine styles, is produced from high altitude, organic vineyards. It is made and matured in clay amphorae and the light addition of pine resin uses sap from trees planted around the vineyard. Remarkable freshness and a slightly briney character make this the ideal summer white for barbequed food.
