The fanatics amongst you will say that it is always time for riesling, yet spring and summer seem the perfect match for the filigree of citrus, blossom, delicate sweetness or river-stream stoniness that this magical grape delivers. In cool vintages, and in cool climates, riesling can make wonderfully individual and long-lived wines of great steeliness and freshness that perfectly reflect their growing conditions, and deliver a unique flavour that only riesling can conjure. We have chosen three contrasting examples – two dry, one off-dry - that show what the great grape of the Rhine can do, in Germany and beyond.
Wohlmuth Kitzeck Sausal Riesling 2019 Styria, Austria - £17.40
Tupari Dry Riesling 2013, Marlborough, New Zealand - £19.90
Zilliken Rausch Riesling Kabinett 2015 Saar, Germany - £24.50
