Tonight's tasting is a closer look at this underrated red grape, which, with its flavours of blackcurrant, hedgerow fruit and delicate herbaceousness, is the perfect springtime red. Although native to the Loire, both South Africa and Argentina have been making increasingly delicious examples. Then we return to the France to look at a more substantial and structured example with the ageing potential and complexity of a fine right bank Bordeaux.
