Liquid Bread: Beers for the Table

Friday 9th April, 8pm

For millennia, fermented grains have provided countless foodstuffs for cultures across the world, from Ethiopean Injera to San Francisco sourdough, ginger ale to mead and beer. Just like wine, these drinks have evolved and developed hand-in-hand with local food culture so tonight we will salivate over (imagined) classic and innovative food pairings, while tasting some beer and mead that we think is perfectly suited to the table. Often featuring gentle acidity and even wood tannin or fruit astringency, these are not very far away at all from the wines that we like to reach for when the cookbook comes out or even when a takeaway provides welcome relief from Chef's block!

Expect the complex, wild fruit flavours of The Kernel's cherry saison as a partner for game perhaps, or maybe some ceviche scallops washed down with a mead made in Peckham. Boundary-pushing Yonder in Somerset offer their bright take on naturally-fermented beer which is sublime with a cheeseboard and blueberry chutney, and we'll finish with the beguiling and quite brilliant Golden Ale from Thornbridge collaborating with Burning Sky with its herbal layers of flavour. Chicken Saltimbocca anyone? Dig in!
