While we are still confined to dreaming of escape to a blissful Greek island, we thought we should do what we can to set the scene as well and take a bibulous look at the delicious white wines Greece boasts. With an ancient culture of winemaking, it is little surprise that Greece has an embarrassment of riches when it comes to grape varieties and this tasting explores four different varieties that are beginning to make names for themselves. Two wines come from the islands, the latest release of our favourite Assyrtiko-Athiri blend from Chios, Chora, a new addition from Crete, Lyrarakis Vilana, and the final wine is from the mainland, a delicious organic Roditis from Tetramythos. The Greek wine renaissance is continuing apace and there has never been a better time to see what all the fuss is about.
