Domaine Gaston et Pierre Ravaut Ladoix 1er Cru Les Basses Mourottes 2021 Cote de Beaune Burgundy
Vincent Ravaut is the sixth generation to look after this domaine which is situated on the fault line between Cote de Nuits to the north and Cote de Beaune to the south. Here Vincent, together with his son, Jules, produces both white and red wines of superb value.
Pinot Noir is exceptional in its ability to communicate terroir, and the vines of Les Basses Mourottes can be found on clay-limestone soils at 300m on an east-facing, gentle slope at the northern end of the Corton hillside. The resulting wine, having been aged in French oak (15% of which was new oak) for 12 months, has what Ravaut calls the aromatic flavour of a fine rose liqueur balanced by freshness and body. A meal draped in sauce chasseur would be a rather brilliant pairing.
