Home to the ancient Phoenicians who, with the Greeks, carried the grape vine all around the Mediterranean, modern Lebanon continues to produce some of the most sophisticated wines in the region. The Bekaa Valley is the heartland of production, and if the ancient Temple of Bacchus is anything to go by, it has been for some time. The legacy of colonial French influence is clear in the winemaking, with stylish Bordeaux blends the hallmark of many top Lebanese estates. Although Chateau Musar is the most famous estate here, many other estates produce equally excellent wine and are well-worth exploring.
