Rosner Sankt Laurent 2021 Kamptal Austria ORG

Sankt Laurent has a rather misty origin, likely belonging to the Pinot clan and originating in Niederosterreich in Austria, but in terms of the wine that results the similarity to pinot is unmistakeable. Stefan Rosner quietly and rigorously tends his patch of this enigmatic black grape which can be very difficult to grow, and it was on a visit in 2022 that we first fell in love with it. Lo and behold, here it is in London! Brambly, with the kind of blackberry juice that gives you a toothy grin as you wolf them down, this is a pleasingly authentic bottling of the grape. A little bit of new and old french oak as well as some whole bunch fermentation is a nod to Burgundy. Chill it down and enjoy with some salami or a cheeseboard.
