Caves St Verny, Auvergne

Founded in 1950, Cave St Verny is the only cooperative in the Puy de Dome department of the Auvergne, and they are also unique in being the only privately owned cooperative in France, having been saved from collapse in the late 1980s. Now run by the Desprat family, the cooperative has 115 members with the average holding being under 2ha and the largest 10ha, meaning that much of the vineyard work is still performed by hand on a small scale. The winemaking facilities are state of the art and focus on producing wines that are cleanly made, fresh and appealing.
