The port business is where Niepoort started, and port wine remains the jewel of in the crown of this pioneering Douro estate. The LBV is a true Late Bottled Vintage, not just a trumped-up Ruby. In other words, this is a port made in the style of the great vintage ports of the region, with just a little less time in bottle and more time in cask to make it approachable for early drinking. Unfined and unfiltered, just like a vintage port, this can be aged for decades and will throw a sediment in time. For current drinking expect velvet tannins and plush black fruit, accented by Darjeeling tea leaves, bergamot, and the indescribable but unmistakeable spiciness of the Douro.
