The close friendship between Theatre of Wine and Xavier Guillaume and his estate in the rolling Franche-Comté countryside goes back almost to the opening of our first shop in 2002. A French photographer happened to drop in to Greenwich while on holiday, and was surprised to find Guillaume wines on the shelves. He took a shot of Daniel with a bottle of pinot noir, which was subsequently featured in a free newspaper widely circulated in eastern France.
Some weeks later the phone rang, and Xavier was on the line, asking if he could come and visit. ‘Of course, we would love to meet you. When can you come?’. ‘Now. My car is around the corner.’ He must have put at least 20 wines along the tasting table, and over those bottles we created a bond that has lasted nearly two decades, and introduced tens of thousands of people to his delicious wines.
