Clos du Val was born in the early 1970s, when young couple John and Henrietta Goelet were living in France. They fell in love with the country's rich wine culture and dreamt of founding a winery themselves. A meeting with Bernard Portet, a young man who had spent his childhood growing up at the world famous Ch‰teau, Lafite Rothschild, turnd out to be the start of their wine journey. Bernard was fresh out of winemaking school and heavily influenced by the Bordeaux tradition. They challenged him to travel the world and find a place where they could grow Cabernet Sauvignon to rival the best in the world. Bernard's trip led him to California's Napa Valley, to the now famous Stag's Leap district, and the rest, as they say, is history, with Clos du Val now being in its 3rd Generation of Goelet ownership.
Focussed on the Bordeaux traditions, winemaking, and grapes, this delicious red is made from Clos du Val's sites in both Stag's Leap district and neighbouring Yontville, and is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, and a splash of Malbec. It is fermented in stainless steel and aged for 7 months in French oak. Ripe red and black berries mix with hints of anise and mocha, with a smooth mouthfeel and lingering finish.
